AIP Asset Management (AIP) recognized by UN for socially responsible investing

Jay Bala, senior portfolio manager at AIP Asset Management awarded for supporting goal 9 and goal 12 of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals

 

TORONTO, October 21, 2017 – The United Nations Association in Canada, Toronto Region (UNACTO) marks the 72nd anniversary with a flag raising and awards ceremony at Toronto City Hall.  UN Day, officially marked on October 24th every year celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in 1945.

UNACTO honoured members of the community for their work towards supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations through various ways.  Jay Bala, senior portfolio manager and CEO at AIP was awarded by Jasmine Jackman, president of UNACTO for supporting goal 9 – industry, innovation and infrastructure and goal 12 – responsible consumption and production through specific investments made in certain AIP funds.

“Thank you for your continued support,” Jay said at the start of his speech alongside Alex Kanayev (co-founder).  “Alex and I started AIP Asset Management with the vision to bring institutional-quality investing down to the retail level through socially responsible investing.  It has been important to us since day one to invest in companies that demonstrate an affinity for social justice, environmental sustainability and clean energy/technology efforts.”

The 2017 recipients of the UNACTO SDGs Recognition Awards support the sustainable development goals of the UN including:

Goal 1 – No Poverty: Red Dot Project

Goal 2 – Zero Hunger: Isthmus

Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being: SMILE Canada

Goal 4 – Quality Education: Indspire

Goal 5 – Gender Equality and Goal 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF)

Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation and Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Women’s Healthy Environments Network (WHEN)

Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: Jay Bala, Senior Portfolio Manager at AIP Asset Management

Goal 13 – Climate Action, Goal 15 – Life on Land and Goal 17 – Partnerships for the Goals:  Sustainable Youth Canada
